Alocasia odora, also known as giant elephant ear, Asian taro, and night-scented lily, is a large evergreen perennial native to East and Southeast Asia. Its impressive size makes it a popular ornamental plant, with leaves reaching up to two feet tall when mature. Typically, this plant grows six to eight feet tall under optimal conditions.

This alocasia odora can be grown as a houseplant, in outdoor containers, or in shade gardens where the main attraction is its large foliage. However, it may also produce peach-colored flowers (although this is uncommon when grown indoors) that resemble the unique shape of a lily's spathe.

Those with limited light will be pleased to know that this perennial thrives in the shade. It prefers partial to full shade when outdoors and medium to bright indirect light when indoors.

Proper watering is essential for Alocasia odora. Keep the soil consistently moist, but avoid overwatering. Carefully monitoring conditions and ensuring proper drainage will help prevent overwatering and maintain a healthy plant.

Like all plants in the alocasia genus, the alocasia odora is considered toxic to pets and humans if ingested so take care if you have curious little ones running around.
